Première split sous le nom de Children Of Bodom : Wizzard - Children Of Bodom - Cryhavoc
Le groupe a enregistré une pièce du nom de "Children Of Bodom" qui a été mis en vente en single limité et il est resté en première position dans les palmarès finlandais huit semaines sans avoir réellement de promotion.

Premier vrai album reconnu sorti en 1997 : SOMETHING WILD!
Children Of Bodom : Something Wild
Genre : Death metal mélodique

Malgrè divers problèmes de maison de disques le disque sortira en 1997 sous le label finlandais "Spinefarm".
Cet album n'a pas très bien marché mais n'est pas passé inaperçu aux oreilles de Nuclear Blast qui signera avec Children pour 4 autres albums!
Les influences Black et Maiden sont flagrantes, des guitares très Heavy et mélodiques soupoudrées d'un voix presque aigue et forcé... Un son dans l'ensemble assez tranchant qui enrobe des compos assez rapides... C'est album n'est pas le meilleur mais il aura été indispensable pour l'avenir du groupe.
Ce premier album est assez court, à peine 30 mn, mais cela suffit à COB pour nous prouver leur efficacité!
Une chose est sure ce sont les guitares incisives qui tiennent la baguette et tout le reste vient se placer autour, voix black, batterie speed.
Les compos ont un style un peu baroque et très mélodique, virtuosité incontestable d'Alexi et du clavier.
Une chose que COB a compris, il faut exploiter l'energie qui est en nous et la faire ressentir à travers les chansons...
