Hatebreeder, le 2ème album de Children of Bodom, est sorti le 26 avril 1999. Il est considéré par beaucoup comme étant le meilleur album du groupe.

L'accouchement de Hatebreeder fut difficile pour ses membres encore si jeunes mais déjà si matures par leur soif d'expérience. Le stress,la frustration,le sacrifice furent les éléments incontournables de la réalisation d'un album qui devait faire encore toutes ses preuves malgré la réussite sans complexe d'un premier opus et les six années de dur labeur permettent ainsi d'aboutir à la naissance de ce fameux Hatebreeder.

Guére plus long que son prédécesseur, il comporte néanmoins deux chansons supplémentaires. L'attente fondée sur ce deuxiéme album est rapidement récompensée. Car si les compositions n'atteignent plus les six minutes(opus en ce sens plus compact et agressif),
les jeux de guitare sont toujours aussi aériens et subtils(dont l'interprétation n'est plus sujet à une quelconque critique) et sont soutenus par un clavier toujours aussi indispensable. D'ailleurs sur ce point, on pourra remarquer qu'il y a plus de duos harmonieux entre les deux types d'instruments. La rythmique,imposée par la batterie et la basse,digne du métal extreme,se fond avec la voix d'Alexi qui impose son timbre unique.

Toutes ces techniques de virtuose se mélangent dans une sorte de fluidité
où il est définitivement difficile d'étiqueter la musique exercée par Children of Bodom et ou les mélanges de style sont la marque de fabrique du combo.

En conséquence on se fait fort de pouvoir soutenir ce groupe alliant agressivité,fluidité, technicité, virtuosité et l'on peut prétendre à en devenir des fans prématurés entièrement dévoués aprés ce début de carrière plus qu'exemplaire.
